The live auction of my paintings of Whitley County barns, last Saturday, July 15, brought in nearly $3500. Unfortunately I missed the auction since I was still in Montana. However Ron Myer, my tireless barn scout, and the other board members of the agricultural museum were pleased with the results. The funds raised will go towards the new sidewalk in front of this wonderful museum.
I enjoyed doing these paintings and writing essays about the barns and making frames for the paintings out of wood from the barns. At least one of the barns will be dismantled soon. Thanks to the local newspaper – that published color photos of all the barns and the essays – neighbors had the chance to read the essays and perhaps learn something new about local history.
Since I had to select from a vast assortment of barns that Ron had assembled, I’ll return in November for another two days of barn hunting with him.
