At the annual Evendale Art Exhibit last Friday, I was honored to have two of my paintings selected – out of 300 works submitted. Only 38 of the 80 artists in the show had two or more pieces in the competition. But, alas, my paintings did not win any awards. Maybe next time.
I did have a chance to meet several “veteran” artists as well as many guests who stopped by to look at my paintings. I invited them to the art auction-fundraiser for the Heritage Village next Saturday, May 13. Some of the artists told me that about five years ago there was a “paint out” held at the village – with proceeds going to the foundation.
So, winless at the art show, I tried my luck yesterday in running the 19th annual Flying Pig marathon and managed to take third place, good for an award. I’ve run several of these “hometown” marathons, but never in such glorious weather – about 39 at the start and low 50s at the end. The only problems were the hills, one after another, relentless up to the very end. After 26.2 miles of such a challenge, it felt good to take home a prize, my first one in this marathon. Now back to the easel and my paints.
