It’s been a great year for capturing barns and their stories, painting them, and posting their stories on my site. Some barns I’ve painted have been dismantled and others will be taken down relatively soon. So I’m grateful that I had the chance to get to them in time.
Next Saturday I’ll do my last demo of the year, a great composition of a barn in Knox County, right next to a railroad line. I’ll call it “The Wool Barn” when I finish. The local sheep farmers would bring their wool to this barn, store it, and then load it into rail cars for shipment. I’ll be at the Westheimer Gallery in Sharonville from about 10:30 to about 12:30. 11165 Reading Road, 45241, is the address. Carriage rides, too! Come and watch me and meet my granddaughter Vivian, whose art career is just beginning.
Next year my paintings will be in fundraisers in Greene County (the historical society), Indiana (the Whitley County ag museum), Brown County (the John Parker House foundation), Allen County, Miami County, and, perhaps most interestingly, on WCET, Cincinnati’s public television network. WCET will feature a live auction that anyone can bid on and will post the paintings in advance, beginning in February. The auction happens in April. More info later.
I’ll also be delivering paintings in May to Mahoning, Columbiana, and Knox counties, which will also hold fundraisers later next year. And I’ll be scouting some new counties, including Tuscarawas, home of baseball legend Cy Young. My goal is to paint at least several barns in each of Ohio’s 88 counties. I recently painted “The Pagoda Barn,” an incredible structure, which came down about 30 years ago. No, I never visited it, but, so far, it’s the only barn I’ve recorded in Henry County. Maybe I’ll get up there someday.
Currently the Sharon Woods Heritage Village is offering a holiday sale on my paintings for the next two weeks. Their hours are posted on the website. Simply park next to the Nature Center and walk into the office – a grand old restored farm house.
And I hope you have an enjoyable and blessed holiday season.
